Step back in time and explore Charleston through the lens of preservation on this immersive guided walking tour. Discover how this storied city has protected its historic charm, architectural integrity, and cultural heritage through centuries of change. As we explore lovingly restored landmarks, you'll learn about the pivotal role Charleston has played in the American preservation movement—from the founding of Historic Charleston Foundation in 1947 to the strict zoning laws that continue to protect the city’s iconic skyline. See how preservationists have carefully balanced progress with tradition and gain insight into the challenges the city faces today, from climate threats to tourism pressures.

This two-hour walking tour is led by Charleston’s most experienced, licensed guides. No private sites or interiors are included on these walking tours.

Historic Charleston Foundation advocates for a future for Charleston that honors and protects its people, places, culture, and community.

As the Foundation’s largest annual fundraiser, the net proceeds from ticket sales and donations from patrons of The Charleston Festival provide HCF with critical resources needed to effectively protect one of our nation’s most treasured historic places. This support allows us to use our resources where and when they are most needed to affect successful outcomes against the challenges facing the Charleston community and to provide important educational opportunities for students of all ages. Thank you for your support!
