Scoop up Summer Fun at the Nathaniel Russell House Museum

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Even in colonial-era Charleston, the days were hot. Have you ever wondered how colonial-era kids stayed cool and passed their time? Have you ever played games called ‘graces,’ ‘quoits,’ and ‘skittles’? How about making ice cream the old-fashioned way?

Parents and young ones, join Historic Charleston Foundation for a morning of historic children’s entertainment and a delicious treat that guests can help us make! Learn about how Nathaniel and Sarah Hopton Russell’s daughters, Alicia and Sarah, might have spent some time outdoors, and what it takes to make ice cream from scratch. Then try your hand at the historic games and some historic flavors of ice cream!

Recommended for ages 5-12 years old. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Space is limited. Please register early.

(Event does not include house museum admission.)
