Blackout Poetry

This event is no longer on sale.

Saturday March 25

9:00 AM  –  10:30 AM

“Blackout Poetry” is a much older activity than you may believe – dating back into the 1700s! Be inspired by the preserved-as-found Aiken-Rhett House Museum in this fun and engaging morning program courtesy of the Community Collection from our friends at Charleston County Public Library.

Create poetry by “blacking out” certain passages and words as house educators discuss education for children in the early 19th century as well as historical literacy – who could read and write, and who could not, during the residences of the Aiken and Rhett families.

Children of all ages must be accompanied by an adult. Adults and children will partake in the poetry exercise.

Recommended for ages: 9 -15 years

The Aiken-Rhett House Museum is not handicap accessible and strollers are not permitted in the house.
